My Old School, directed by Jono McLeod, unpacks the astonishing true story of Brian MacKinnon, who, in 1995, was exposed as a 30-year-old posing as a 16-year-old student at Bearsden Academy. The revelation made headlines across the country, capturing widespread media attention.
Wild Child brought this surreal story to life through animated flashback sequences inspired by Daria, ensuring they seamlessly fit within the film’s visual style. The creative development phase was crucial in defining the look of the cutaway animation segments, ensuring they felt visually cohesive within the film.
The team managed asset and rigging builds, animation testing, and final animation. Scott Morris led the asset creation, overseeing design and initial testing. From there, Wild Child’s creative team shaped the overall style, collaborated on early testing with Hopscotch, and worked closely with an external team to bring everything together. The end result was a series of engaging, nostalgic, and stylistically distinctive animated sequences that added a unique visual layer to the documentary.
