Wild Child Animation is pulling back the curtain on the creative and technical choices behind Piripenguins, the vibrant new children’s comedy created by Series Director Massimo Fenati. Produced by Eaglet Films with Red Monk Studio and in partnership with Wild Child Animation, the series was commissioned by BBC and RAI, with support from the UK Global Screen Fund.

Spanning 52 x 11-minute episodes, the show looks deceptively simple, but delivering its distinctive style meant pushing Unreal Engine beyond familiar territory. Massimo’s original 2D characters needed to inhabit a richer, more dynamic 3D world without losing their illustrated charm.

To achieve this, Wild Child developed a hybrid 2D/3D pipeline in Unreal. Watch our behind-the-scenes video to see how the team brought it all together. . .

We had a proven Unreal pipeline, the right tools, and the 2D experience to pull together something unique. That gave us the confidence to support a highly stylised 2D/3D hybrid, at scale, without slowing down.
